Andrew Long Architects have been appointed to carry out full planning and building regulations applications for the extension and alterations to an historic dwelling in the conservation area of Budleigh Salterton, Devon. The scheme involved upgrading the most historic part of the dwelling with like for like repairs to the external fabric and new stairs, fire places, bathrooms, kitchens and knock through internally. The house had an insensitive modern extension and driveway that was out of character with the street scene.

The proposal involved enhancing and upgrading this out of character modern wing and landscape in subservient contrast and with the existing historic house to a new contemporary extension. A  crisp cohesive language of high quality materials and a new landscaped forecourt and driveway aim to enhance the street scene which included planters for shrubs and lavender beds and seating under a new glass and timber canopy.
