New Low Energy Dwelling, Exmouth

New Low Energy Dwelling, The Avenues, Exmouth

Andrew Long Architects were appointed to design a new 4 bedroom low energy dwelling in the historic Avenues setting of  Exmouth, in a large garden site of an existing historic dwelling. The dwelling is south facing with large areas of glazing, high levels of insulation in the external envelope and airtightness detailing to capture the solar gain and lower the heating demand. Solar PV panels on the roof provide renewable energy with battery storage to the South West aspect.

The landscape has been sensitively designed to ratain mature trees and encourage biodiversity with Devon earth banks for re-use of soil from the foundations, bat and bird boxes and local indigenous species of planting. It was built by the local community and gained support by The Local Residents Association and East Devon District Council by way of Pre Application Feedback prior to gaining planning approval. It had no objections from local residents, Parish Council, neighbours or the Planning Officer and went straight through the planning process under delegated powers with full support.
